Have You Checked Your Volunteer Reflection Lately?

Overview: One of the challenges with a large majority of Meals on Wheels providers is understanding that volunteers are valuable resources in multiple ways. Establishing metrics to understand and measure these benefits is the first step. Implementing plans to leverage and cultivate these resources are the next and usually final steps.

Background: Most Meals on Wheels providers do an adequate job at understanding and showing how volunteer delivery drivers help reduce meal delivery costs and what that means to their clients and their bottom line. However, many miss factors like their volunteers are walking billboards and shine a reflection on your organization either positively or negatively.

Plan of Action: It is a good idea to make a New Year’s Resolution to determine how your specific Meals on Wheels volunteer program reflects on your organization. This type of assessment is critical to not only growing your volunteer base but as a part of your overall volunteer recruitment and retention program.
