Some Advice For March

If your Meals on Wheels program decides to participate in “March for Meals” which is national awareness campaign that local Meals on Wheels providers are encouraged to participant in, you might want to consider a simple “Kickoff” campaign like the one noted below. Your local senior center, community center or your congregate dining center are all great places to host a simple awarnesss campaign. Most groups we have experience with like to hold these kickoffs during normal lunch operations the first or second week of the month. Many also invite community leaders to stop in and sample what is for lunch that day. Another popular option is to do a simple bagel and coffee brunch for community leaders before lunch is served to congregate clients so they can learn about how the program works. Some programs feel that it is critically important for community leaders to see how lunches are assembled and packed for delivery to home delivered clients and then how the operations are swithed over to “cafeteria style” operations to serve congregate clients who usually show up between 11:00am-noon for lunch.
